The regular course is a systematic Korean language education program for foreigners and overseas Koreans who want to attend a university or settle in Korea.

Overview

  • Class grades: Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (placed at the appropriate classes based on the placement test scores before the start of the course)
  • Semesters: 4 semesters per year (spring, summer, fall, winter), 10 weeks per semester (total of 160 hours)
  • Classes: 4 hours a day, 4 days a week (09:00~13:00, afternoon classes may be provided depending on the circumstances)
  • Attendance: 70% or more attendance required

Study goals by grade

1st grade

  • The students acquire basic survival language skills such as introducing themselves, buying things, and ordering food items.
  • The students understand and express information about familiar topics such as themselves, their family, the weather, and their hobbies.
  • The students can make simple sentences using about 800 words of basic vocabulary and basic grammar.
  • The students understand and create simple everyday practical sentences.

2nd grade

  • The students are able to use everyday language for phone call, asking a favor, etc. and basic language skills for using public facilities.
  • The students understand paragraphs concerning personal familiar topics utilizing approximately 1,500 to 2,000 words.
  • The students can use Korean by distinguishing formal and informal expressions.

3rd grade

  • The students can use basic language skills necessary to use various public facilities or form social relationships without having significant difficulties.
  • The students can express and understand familiar everyday subjects in paragraphs.
  • The students can understand the basic features of written and spoken language by distinguishing them.

4th grade

  • The students can use the language necessary to use public facilities or form and maintain social relationships.
  • The students can use the language necessary to perform common tasks to some extent.
  • The students can understand relatively simple contents of news and newspaper articles.
  • The students understand or express social and cultural contents based on their understanding of the Korean culture and idiomatic expressions.

5th grade

  • The students can use the language required to perform tasks in their areas of specialization with some proficiency.
  • The students understand and use unfamiliar subjects across social, cultural, economic, and political contexts.
  • The students can use the language based on the formal and informal or spoken and written contexts with some degree of appropriateness.

Completion

  • Achievements appraised based on 80% regular exams and 20% occasional exams
  • The students can complete the course when they satisfy all of the following
    1. 160 points or higher final scores
    2. 2Score of 10 points or higher in each of the three sections out of listening, reading, speaking, and writing sections.
    3. 370% or higher attendance rate
  • The completion certificate specifies the final completed grade, study period, etc.

Foreign student care service

  • Airport pick-up and escort service for students arriving in a designated period
  • Programs operated to help foreign students stay and adapt to local conditions by their language-based category
  • Opportunities for experiencing Korean culture (making Korean food, confectionery, bakery, etc.)
